Elegant Cairngorms Elopement in the Scottish Highlands

Olivia and Adam’s elegant Cairngorms elopement wedding at Loch Garten was such a joy to capture. Their day began quietly as they got ready together in their room at The Fife Arm Hotel in Braemar. An incredibly classy and characterful venue, set in a stunning location in the Scottish Highlands, and renowned for its art collection, excellent service and its mouthwatering food. If you want to combine adventure and luxury for your elopement in Scotland, this is the ideal place!

Olivia & Adam first met at university, but although they shared many classes and mutual friends, their paths very rarely crossed. Their first proper interaction was at their final year dance, when Olivia saw a rather handsome man standing on a table, adjusting a ceiling light; being slightly tipsy, she gave his bum a cheeky smack! Despite having made a distinct impression on each other, they went their separate ways after university, moving to different cities to study further.

But as fate would have it, a couple of years later, their paths coincided again on a mutual work project. After multiple coffee invites, Olivia’s colleagues finally convinced her that she must go to dinner with this man—who in everyone’s unanimous opinion was far too good looking for his own good! Olivia eventually gave in and went on the best date/non-date of her life and they talked all night! For their next date/non-date Adam took Olivia to a bookshop, where they ended up discussing almost every book in sight and laughing non-stop… And the rest, as they say, is history.

Olivia and Adam have never been ones to do things the traditional way, and they love Scotland, so combining the trip of a lifetime with a Scotland elopement in the Cairngorms just felt right for them. They were drawn to the thick Caledonian Pine forests that are so typical to this area. The intriguing paths that wind through the forest have a very distinctive fairy-tale quality, and also amazing light for photography! They had chosen a quiet location on the shore of Loch Garten for their outdoor elopement wedding ceremony. Humanist celebrant Neil Lynch conducted a beautiful ceremony, which was by turns funny and incredibly moving.

After their elopement wedding ceremony, Olivia and Adam were keen to explore some more of The Cairngorms National Park. So we headed-off to one of our favourite secret locations – which combines a gentle walk through the forest with stunning mountain and loch views. We always love showing couples our favourite spots – and combining a bit of exploring with some relaxed and natural couples photography along the way. It was lovely to capture Olivia and Adam’s super-fun and playful dynamic and get an insight into why they work so well as a team.
