Scotland elopement photographer

We are The Caryls — Katy & Jim, an internationally award-winning Scotland elopement photographer duo based on the edge of the Scottish Highlands. We capture emotive elopements and intimate weddings in Scotland’s wild landscapes and abroad.

For almost a decade, we’ve helped more than 300 couples travelling from the USA, Canada, Europe and beyond to shape elopements and intimate wedding days that feel relaxed, romantic and deeply intentional. Internationally recognised for our cinematic, story-driven photography, our work combines adventure with artistry. Alongside our photography we provide expert local planning guidance, helping you choose meaningful locations, shape relaxed timelines and create a day that feels true to you.

Our approach is simple: we create a supportive space for the real moments to unfold. We’ll be your trusted guides, offering some gentle direction when you need it, and stepping back when you don’t — always placing your story, your experience and your unique connection at the heart of your day.

Whether it’s just the two of you, or a small group of your favourite people, if you’re dreaming of a small and intimate wedding or a cinematic elopement in Scotland (or beyond), we’re here to help bring your vision to life!

          How to elope in Scotland

Drawing on our long experience of working with eloping couples, we’ve created a detailed guide covering everything you need to know about eloping in Scotland to help you feel confident and well-prepared for your day. While it’s designed for all couples planning their time here, we’ve included specific advice for those travelling from the USA, Canada and Australia — including practical guidance for overseas couples navigating the process of getting married in Scotland.

Alongside our main ‘How to Elope in Scotland’ guide, we’ve written in-depth resources on the best places to elope in Scotland, a detailed Isle of Skye elopement guide, insights into Glencoe elopements, and a look at what the experience feels like month-by-month throughout the year, among others.

          Cinematic moments . . .

If you’ve found yourself here, you’re probably imagining something a little different for your wedding day. A day that feels more like your love story — untamed, unscripted and entirely your own.

Maybe a traditional wedding never felt quite right. You’re not looking to be the centre of attention, but you still want to honour your journey with something intentional — something that lasts beyond a fleeting memory. Your day should feel immersive and unhurried. Cinematic, but honest. Atmospheric, but deeply personal.
It might begin quietly. Morning light filtering through the windows, in a space that has invited you to slow down. The anticipation of getting ready — steadying one another.

Then you step outside, into light that never quite settles, weather that insists you notice it, and a wild landscape that draws you closer.

As a husband-and-wife team, we help you shape that space — anticipating what you’ll need so you can remain present, guiding gently when needed and stepping back when the moment is entirely yours.

Whether it’s just the two of you on a mountainside, or a handful of your closest people gathered beneath an open sky or inside a historic castle, know that eloping isn’t a smaller version of a wedding. It’s a deeper one.

Eloping to Scotland in the misty mountains

We were blown away by how much effort The Caryls poured into every interaction. Jim and Katy took such care to help us craft a meaningful elopement experience, offering detailed advice on planning an intimate wedding in Scotland. Coming from the U.S, their guidance eased so much of the stress; honestly, it felt like we had photographers and travel planners in our corner! The time and heart they invest in their couples is truly extraordinary!!

          Kind words from our couples

One of the best ways to understand what it’s like to work with us is to hear from the couples who have trusted us with their Scottish elopements and wedding days. Their feedback means the world to us, and we’re grateful to have received 90 5-star reviews on Google. Our couples often speak about our experience and local knowledge, our ability to navigate Scotland’s ever-changing weather, and the calm, supportive presence we bring to the day.
Many mention how seamlessly we work together, and how comfortable they felt — even those who usually shy away from the camera.

Above all, couples value our artistic eye: imagery that feels cinematic yet natural, and that somehow looks even more beautiful than they remember.

An eloping couple int he Scottish mountains looking like Lord of the Rings

Our elopement photos are absolute works of art! Neither of us feel we 'photograph well', but Jim and Katy managed to make our elopement photos look like something out of Lord of The Rings; we couldn't believe it was us in the pictures, they were so beautiful! They magically managed to make our wedding day photos look as delicate, as intimate and as peaceful as the actual day felt. From the epic to the personal isn't an easy artistic feat, but Jim and Katy manage it effortlessly.”
