5. The Hermitage
This stretch of magical Perthshire forest was originally designed as a pleasure garden in the 18th century for the Dukes of Atholl. Giant Douglas firs tower over the paths leading down to the roaring Black Linn Falls, where the River Braan crashes down into the deep, foaming pools below. Overlooking the waterfall is a picturesque folly known as Ossian’s Hall, built in 1757 as the focal point in this extensive pleasure ground. Decorated with mirrors, sliding panels and paintings, it has been refurbished to re-create the illusions of shock, surprise and amazement that were the aims of the folly’s original design. It makes a great spot to contemplate the roaring falls below.
The dedicated team at The Hermitage provides personalized and attentive service, ensuring that each couple’s vision is brought to life with meticulous attention to detail. The lush gardens, serene ponds, and enchanting woodland paths offer captivating backdrops for wedding ceremonies and photography, capturing the beauty of the occasion amidst the breath-taking landscapes of Perthshire.
Although there is no accommodation on site, The Hermitage is easily accessible for guests and offers a range of accommodation options in the surrounding area. It would pair well with the neighbouring Taybank Hotel (which is known for its excellent food, stylish décor and cosy bar). The team at The Hermitage are committed to creating bespoke experiences, which, combined with its natural beauty and historic charm, makes it a great choice for couples seeking an intimate wedding venue in Perthshire.
